Daily Dose #4

from the City to the Country

Waa-laa, I found the missing post!

So, in my previous-previous post I mentioned we recently moved out of the city back to the country.

And it’s feeling pretty darn good. The hubby is happier, the kids are more active, and I am definitely lovin’ it!

Buuuuttt, did I mention that we’re ‘campering’ it?

Yes, I said campering it! Ha ha.

So, what exactly is campering it one may ask.

Okay, so you’ve heard of the tiny homes, right? Granny pods? Steel building loft homes?

Weelll, it’s a little like that, but in a camper.

And how is that helpful may the next question….

Let me tell you…….

There are a few reasons one may want to go smaller, but here are ours:

  1. downsizing – we are downsizing not only in square footage, but also in needless junk! In my last post I spoke about slowing down…living a more simple life. In our camper home, we definitely can’t have everything that our last 3-bedroom home had or the 4-bedroom home before that. In the years my husband and I have been together, we have accumulated so much crap that just isn’t necessary (as any married couple can attest to) so we decided that getting back to the basics was a must. Living in our camper is pushing us to do exactly that! (***we have lots of stuff for sale****)
  2. saving money (and in today’s economy, who doesn’t want to do that!)- we are saving money because (a) our heating/cooling cost is lower, and insurance/property taxes are cheaper (b) we are slowly integrating more natural resource into our daily lives. (c) saving on water as we are in the process of becoming more self-reliant with our water supply as well. It will be a slow process, but we hope to become more self-reliant versus the way 90% of the population lives now. Woah, wait a minute. I’m not saying that the way people live now is wrong. I’m saying we are making a different choice. There are soooo many natural resources available to us all, but we just need to apply the knowledge to do so. We all have the knowledge! (d) the smaller home you have the less you pay to live in it. It really is that simple.
  3. family togetherness – living simpler means many things to many people, but one concept that’s important to us is family togetherness. In today’s world, everything is at our fingertips, but families are so far apart even if they live under the same roof! We want to get back to simple living so our family can remain close and lean on one another during the trials we face, but in triumphs as well.
  4. less maintenance – it probably does seem crazy, but we are maintaining every day just to survive, whether we are in a 5-bedroom home or a little camper. Living smaller allows for less maintenance just to survive and more time to enjoy our lives. As of right now, my hubby and I are doing more physical work to live in our camper, but we are doing it together and with our children plus we have extra time to partake in activities as a family such as truck-pulling which we have been pretty busy with over the summer.
  5. we are more mobile! and if you like to travel, mobility is good!

The goal is a more self-reliant, simple lifestyle for our family. Day-by-day we are accomplishing that goal. Our first and biggest step was moving out of the city.

And that is a
