Not-so-favorite Part of Autumn **** Yellowjackets!
The other day I posted about why I love the autumn.
Today’s post:
Why I dislike the late summer months….particularly August and September.
Yellowjackets aka wasps – my one and only reason for NOT liking this part of the year!
Besides the fact that I know colder weather (and even worse – snow!) is coming, yellowjackets show up in small increments, eventually full blown yellowjackets season. Therefore, late summer and/or autumn is not my favorite.
Right now, I am dealing with a yellowjacket issue somewhere around my deck and it is frustrating! The little boogers come in the house, into the vehicles, flying around our heads every time we go outside (which is quite often I might add!)
And the crazy things chase me around the yard! Of course, I freak out, too! Honestly, though, I’m getting a little better about not freaking out, but remaining calm and not swatting at the darn things as they fly around me. My kids, however, freak out.
Every year at this time, these darn little flying critters are my concern. Every year, I do not look forward to this time of the season.

There is no mistaking the low humming buzz of the yellowjacket as it preys around the deck and the front door or even around the vehicles as we come and go. When hearing the sound, a person would think it is a whole slew of the yellow and black nuisances, but it’s only one or two at a time! If I’m bee-ing (haha) honest, the sound can potentially be quite soothing if my nerves didn’t get all jumbled at the thought of being stung by one or worse, swarmed by them!
So, to make things a little safer for my family and less worrisome for me, I have tried the spray for hornets, wasps, and so forth. I haven’t had much luck with that. I keep lids on the outdoor trashcans. We have an area where we store empty soda cans, but it’s away from the house. maybe I need to keep that more closed up as well.
I am now looking for ideas on how to get rid of these pesky flying critters, at least right around our living area, the deck, the vehicles, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to minimize/completely eliminate our yellowjacket population? Or, at the very least, minimize their presence around our deck?
Please drop your ideas down below…it would sure be helpful and appreciated!
