Daily Dose #94 – Cancer

πŸ’” The Thief in the Night: Cancer and the Fight for Life

Every single day, across the globe, the word “cancer” invades the lives of millions of families, instantly shifting their world on its axis. It’s a reality that hits close to home for so many of us, including mine.

Cancer is a cunning, brutal thief. It doesn’t ask permission; it just sneaks in under the cover of darkness to steal the most precious possession of all: time and life itself.

The Shadow It Casts

My own family’s story is marked by this relentless disease. I’ve seen firsthand the devastating power it holds. We lost giantsβ€”my beloved grandpa, my uncle, and two cherished auntsβ€”all taken too soon by cancer’s cruel grip. Their memories serve as a constant reminder of the lives cut short and the holes left in our family tapestry. The battles they fought were fierce, and their losses weigh heavily.

A Beacon of Light and Hope

Yet, even in the shadow, there can be light.

Three years ago, my incredible sister faced this enemy head-on. The diagnosis was terrifying, plunging us all into that familiar state of fear and uncertainty. But today, I am profoundly grateful to share that she is not only a survivor, but has been living cancer-free for three wonderful years! Her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit through treatment were nothing short of inspiring. She is a true testament to the power of modern medicine, endless love, and sheer willpower.

Fighting the Unseen Enemy

Her victory, and the losses we carry, illuminate the profound duality of cancer. It is a disease that strips life away, yet it also inspires incredible courage, drives billions in research, and unites families in a fight they never asked for.

We remember those the thief stole, and we celebrate every single moment with those who fought back. If you are currently in the fight, for yourself or a loved one, please know that you are not alone.
