Daily Dose #96 – Quiet Mornings

The Quiet Grace of the Pre-Dawn Kitchen

If you live in a busy household—especially one where kids and farm animals are involved—you know that true silence is a precious, rare commodity. For me, that silence belongs exclusively to the mornings.

Those hours just before the rest of the house stirs are my sanctuary. It’s the quietest, most intentional part of my entire day, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

The Solo Symphony of the Sunrise

While the world outside is still cloaked in shadows, I take time to perform my morning ritual. Alone in the kitchen, I start the day’s work. There is a calm solitude in the gentle sounds: the clink of a plate being set down, the sizzle of butter hitting the pan, the slow, satisfying gurgle of the coffee maker.

I make breakfast and set the table by myself. This isn’t a chore; it’s a meditation. I arrange the silverware and stack the bowls, not rushing, just savoring the absence of demands. This small, solo act of preparation feels like lining up the dominos for a day that, moments later, will erupt into motion.

The Great Unveiling

Only when the table is perfectly set and the coffee has hit maximum strength do I head up to wake the girls. The quiet is broken by giggles, footfalls, and the inevitable morning chaos, but I’ve already had my moment of peace, grounding me for the day ahead.

Finding Connection at Noon

While breakfast is a functional, quick start to the day, our noon meal is when we truly reconnect.

That lunch hour is sacred. We come together—tired from the morning’s farm work, school lessons, or creative projects—and share our stories, plans, and minor dramas. It’s loud, it’s messy, and it is full of life. It’s the perfect, chaotic balance to my serene morning start.

The quiet grace of the morning prepares me for the joyful noise of our family connecting over the midday table.
