Texas Trip – Part 2
as promised, more about our trip to Texas!
as mentioned in my last post, my hubby was supposed to go with us, but it didn’t work out as such. I proceeded to ask my older children who also couldn’t go. sadly, but probably a little good for me, my girls and i made the trip alone. the trip was only supposed to be one week including four days of drive time, but ended being two weeks total including four days of drive time. as i previously mentioned, the whole trip was a learning experience. i highly encourage young adults to take a trip solo. it helps discover so much about oneself!
here’s our timeline:
- 9/20 – started our journey
- 9/21- 9/22 – stayed at friends in Kansas
- 9/23 – first official Texas stop – Paris Texas! My oldest girl loves everything Paris and has plans to travel to Paris on a school trip this spring, one of us travelling with the group as chaperon, of course. i decided an impromptu visit to Paris Texas on our way through would be exciting for her. she loved it!
- 9/23 – 9/25 – Longview, Texas for uncles funeral and family visiting
- 9/25 – arrive in Nacogdoches to visit more family
- 9/26 – was supposed to leave for journey home – family and my kiddos begged to stay for an upcoming fishing day
- 9/27 – still hadn’t left yet
- 9/28 – and still in Texas
- 9/29 – guess what? still in Texas! (i didn’t really want to leave either. told hubby i wasn’t coming back – half joking, half not) checking calendar, getting antsy about time away.
- 9/30 – you got it! still in Texas. starting to miss the hubby and older kids. son turns 18 and moves out. and I’m in Texas! drive to Louisiana for big camping/fishing trip, arrive same day
- Oct 1 – breakfast at the cabin! big fishing day! girlies loved it and so did i! fish fry afterwards
- Oct 2 – officially on the road home. lots of goodbyes, hugs, sad girls, antsy momma…excited to see hubby and older kiddos.
- Oct 3 – arrive home very, very late
- Oct 4 – rest day for the weary travellers
- Oct 5 – back into swing of things
our trip south was everything i thought it would be and so much more. thinking of living like snowbirds, 6 months north and 6 months south…approx. anyway.
lots of farmland in the Dakotas. lots of trees in the south. the further south we got, the happier i got. its two different worlds and i have been part of them both. my years north far outnumber my years south, but i realized the south is in my blood. no matter how many years i’ve been gone from there (it’s been 30), i just felt so much peace in my soul when we arrived. the longing to be back down there hit full force as soon as i parked in the first place we stopped.
my hubby and i have discussed moving to warmer climate a number of times through the years. he’s born and raised here, but me…I was born in the south, but have lived all over. while i was was in Texas with my girls, i began seriously considering a move there. this got the wheels spinning in my head. i began to realize that i’m not sure my hubby could actually move. but i could be wrong. anyway…another post for another day.
for now, check out the fun we had!

i have many photos from the day of my uncle’s funeral, but out of respect for my aunt and cousins, i’m not sure i should post any of those.
anywho, thanks for reading!
see you soon……
