Fall on the Farm

I came back from Texas excited to be home, but sad about the cooler weather. I am not looking forward to cold temps and FEET of snow. Inches maybe, but not feet! One thing I do love about winter is a white Christmas. More about winter later…right now, I am somewhat welcoming fall.

Its been busy since I’ve been back home. I have steadily been working on my first building for our ‘old west town’ theme of living. I finally completed the outside and yesterday, I got the roof completed except for the tin. Hopefully, I can make that happen this week!

Today, I plan to stain the building with hopes of giving the ‘old west town’ look. Yesterday evening my son looked over the building….his words, “wow, mom, it looks good.” I looked at him skeptically, not sure if he was being serious and replied, ‘Really? are you making fun of me?”. “Seriously, mom, I’m proud of you. It looks good. Watching you when you first started building it, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it looks good for someone who didn’t know what they were doing.”

Heart all aflutter, “Aww, thank you, son…….”

He’s right, though, I had no idea what I was doing when I first started. I mean, I didn’t even really know where to start so I just started with building the floor frame and went from there. My wall frames are actually pallets. They work quite well, and although, it’s not pretty inside the walls, the walls are fairly sturdy. The building even has windows which were very tricky for me, but I managed to install two of them! One is not usable, but the other is.

My goal was to get the building enclosed before crazy cold temps arrive. The inside will be winter project work for me to help pass the dreary, snow-filled days. Pics of the completed outside to come soon!

Now, for the animals – Zeus and Zelda are munching away inside their corral which we move around the yard at least once a week. We don’t have any fencing up yet, so the corral is their free space. But they like their grass so we move them frequently. Soon enough we will buy a load of hay for the winter months. The goats – Billy, Unicorn, Caramel, Pinky, and Runaway run free on the prairie never straying to far from Nanny goat who we keep tethered because she will lead them astray far from home. They stay near with her. Of course, the silly goats climb on everything and constantly keep us entertained with their silly antics. I love these animals of ours!

The images are grainy and not real clear, but you get the gist of the antics of these silly goats! It’s fun to watch them jump up and then back down. Its a little game they play over and over again. It doesn’t get boring to watch!

The kids…well the kids are kids. They run and romp and run the dirt bike as much as they can. My boys stay busy building their shop, going to school, working, and hanging out with friends. The girls hang out with me most of the time or their dad, helping their dad and I with whatever we’ve got going on. All-in-all, we are staying pretty busy as we prepare for winter. Hopefully, the snow will hold off for a little while and the real frigid temps will stay away completely.

Ahh, one can only hope.

Until next time, folks!
